SafetyApr 2008 - Mojo Barriers protect the Olympic Torch at its London destination

Although political protests pursued the Olympic Torch throughout London this April it found safe haven behind Mojo Barriers when it finally entered the temporary venue beside the 02 Dome, Greenwich, as the highlight of a celebratory concert.

Olympic torch relay siteMojo Barriers provided 60 metres of aluminium barrier to the event, staged by production company Innovision, which saw a temporary arena and grandstand laid out in front of an impressive, branded stage. Mojo Barriers’ Kevin Thorborn managed the design and installation of the system.

The more restrained atmosphere inside the arena during the event contrasted strongly with the frenetic activity outside. “The finale concert in London was very well organised and our barriers ensured a safe environment for artists, crew and audience members as they enjoyed the ceremony,” says Kevin. “As security concerns around this sort of event increase, I anticipate that organisers will choose to deploy more robust barrier systems, like Mojo Barriers, in public places where crowd surges are likely, as well as in venues. The security barrier has a greater capacity to hold back crowds than the types of ‘pedestrian barrier’ traditionally used in these circumstances.”
